Just thought I would say Hi. I am a 59 year old man that lives on a sand bar just east of Galveston, Texas.I am 1/4 mile from Galveston bay and 1/2 mile from the Gulf of Mexico. I am new to turning. I haven't made anything yet except sawdust. I love to work with my hands. I have built models of the ferry boats and small light house lamps. Some even up to 8 ft tall. I got a cheap lathe from HF. I am thinking about getting a new one. The Jet mini 1014vs is in the lead so far. I just need to talk the wife into it. I also figured out I need some kind of shapening jig cause I can't sharpen my tools worth a darn.

Always glad to see new faces, welcome all.  TexaxBB, do a search on this forum for 'Jet mini' and you'll see that's one of the preferred models, a good choice.

From the middle of the USA, greetings!  Smiley I have been turning most of the last six decades, am president of an AAW chapter as well as one of the mentors available for the novice members.  Own and use two Oneway lathes along with all of the various tools, attachments and other stuff accumulated over the years.  My first name is Royce.

I believe this forum is one that shall remain on my list of favorites.  Enjoy the material and look forward to more.

Welcome to WR Royce.  I've seen that you've already jumped in with both feet and given some great advice.  Look forward to hearing more from you.  With nearly 6 decades of turning I'm sure there is much we will learn from you.
