Well I'v been boppin in and out of these boards for about a week now before I noticed there was a welcome thread...doh. So much good info here.
Anyway, I'm from Georgia and have been turning for about 3 1/2 years, though I had a break from it when I deployed overseas last year (the 1st Sgt would'nt let me pack my lathe).
My first love is segment work though I have recently discovered the joy of pens.
My first lathe was a dewalt drill clamped to my workbench with a rubber band around the trigger. I used it to turn knitting needles for my wife. That morphed into the 60 dollar ebay special that soon became known as "BB" (blue b'trd). BB is now a disc sander and I use a grizzly 462 (I'v read some opinions on grizzly, but from my view...it rocks).

Hello Everyone !
My name is John,  I live in Abbotsford B. C.  Canada.
Just turned 53 last week , and got remarried in June of this year after flying solo for 23 yrs.
I work as a Realtor in Abbotsford and surrounding areas, including Greater Vancouver.
Hobbies are flyfishing and woodworking, and lately Turning which I got into about 2 yrs back. I started with an older Walker turner lathe Driver line which I quickly grew out of. my next lathe was a used General 260-20 which is enough lathe that I see myself having it for some time. ( though after seeing a friend of mine Stubbie 750, it is one I'm very interested in perhaps upgrading to in the future )
My shop is a stand alone  22' x 23' fully insulated garage that I'm able to heat with just one household oilfilled space heater, shop also has attic space for a few thousand BF of lumber that I have up there.
I joined the Local GVWG,  Greater Vancouver Woodturners Guild last year and since joining my turning has improved greatly.

John
