Okay guys, I've had my fun.  And I really loved all your guesses.  Those of you who guessed Martial Arts were very close.

I'm a black belt in Taekwondo.  I've been taking classes for 2 1/2 years.  I attended a tournament in Terre Haute, IN on May 7th with my son and I took second place in sparring in my division.  Unfortunately I still need to work on my weapons work and my forms.

I spar in class about every other week right now, and the men (Yes!  Men!) don't take it easy on me just because I'm a girl.  I think that's why I did so well at the tournament.

My son Damian will be testing for his Second Degree black belt sometime soon and I hope you will all join me in cheering him on.

I thought that was what I remembered.  Glad I didn't say anything and spoil all the fun.  Way to go Jeanne.  Tell Damian I'm rooting for him.  I know he can do it.  I also know the secret to succeeding; PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.  Then when you get tired from all the practice, PRACTICE SOME MORE. Grin

Who said turning and chatting about it isn't fun. Wink

We have another new member, "dbp", # 201. Welcome aboard, who ever you are.

And another new member, "wdwork", # 202. Welcome aboard.

Is there a problem with real names? No one here bites, as far as I know. Maybe older folks, like me, are a bit more traditional, and do not mind if others know who we are.

Well, Ruaridh, I am just giving them a courteous "welcome aboard", if I happen to see a new name while passing by.
Post counts will not lure me in. Lemon Drops are yummy, but I like “Root Beer Barrels” more!

I must admit Gil, I find some of the acronyms a bit odd, to explain mine, mine is my name and my old postal code (zip code) that I first used ages ago and have sort of stuck with it on most of the forums etc I use.

I suppose this is a good thread to introduce myself.

Anthony, in Rochester, NY (although originally from NJ).

I am new to woodturning in the past year. I got into this when aqcuired an old 12" Craftsman lathe (about 1965 model) from a neighbor, along with some tools.

I built a bench, mounted the lathe and bench grinder, set it all up, and started turning scrap wood.  I have just recently started turning some actual quality wood, and I should get some pictures soon.

I welcome any suggestions to turning out quality work.

THANKS!
~Anthony

Welcome aboard Anthony, I am looking forward to seeing your work in our forum.  My biggest suggestion for making quality turnings is three words.  Practice, practice, practice.  It also helps if you ask questions and trust me the folks here live to answer questions and to be helpful if at all possible.  We look forward to hearing more from you in the future and feel free to chime in at any time.
