Hope this is the last one for a while. A weather historian was saying yesterday that in 1915, both NO and Galviston were hit by catagory 4 huricanes. Sounds like a 90 year cycle to me. 8)

Yes it looks to be a big one. Coming to work all the roads are full with cars. All the hotels and motels are full. We sent a big train to Galviston but they said they didn't need it so we took it to Houston where it was loaded with mostly NO people.
As far as the storm it is projected to go right over my house still as a tropical storm. It is also suppose to stall. I have to work stright thru with my next day off being October 4. Unless something else happens then who knows when I will be off.

Oxygen tanks are considered hazardous material for transport, because they can take a relatively minor fire and turn it into a major fire. When I drove Truck, if I was carrying 3 or more personal size tanks, Federal law required the truck to be labeled front, rear & sides with HazMat signs. With that many tanks being used on the bus, the Oxygen level was probably 3-5 times higher than normal inside.

I thought it was ironic that newscasters were saying that the Oxygen "burned" with an intense flame.

It was a very sad event. I didn't go down there but was keeping up with it on the radio. It is still under investigation and it is believed the brakes heated up starting the fire. The people on board were unable to get out on there own and bystanders and the operator were helping to remove as many as possible until the tanks started going then it was beyond anyone to help get the others off. A bus isn't meant to be in stop and go traffic. The brakes are not designed to handle that type of abuse. It was a sad day and my prayers go out to all involved and the families.
I didn't receive any damage at my house and only got about 2 inches of rain or less. This morning it was a little windy but no rain.

It seems the wheel might have been locked up causing the tire to rub. They had stopped and changed the tire about 75 miles before and the old tire showed signs of wear from not turning. What ever the cause it was bad.

Reply #17 - Oct 7^th, 2005 at 8:33am I finally got a day off and planned for several hours in the shop and then, within an hour...boom the skys opened agian, and tornadoes started swirrling 12 miles from here. Had to leave the shop and come inside. I had time to sand one bowl and turn 4 perfumes, that was it. Ah well, better than blowing away I guess.
