Loughborough 2005 Seminar - offical Top 50 picture
Oct 2nd, 2005 at 11:39am

Just a quick note to let people know that the site has been updated to include low-resolution copies of the "official" pictures of the Top 50 selected pieces.

Access is still through the Daniel Collection - no plans for a seminar specific site at this time.

I've also changed my front page imagery for The Daniel Collection - thought it was about time for some controversy!

Enjoy

Thanks - ours is getting there too albeit slowly.

A bit expensive to add 50 pieces at one go - although we did grab a couple of those in the top 50.  Must get round to taking my own pictures of them someday soon.

Regards

Some great photos Jonathon. Nice to see some of my acquaintances in the top 50.  Although, I have to admit, there were a few I can't say I'm sure were top 50 worthy, but I guess that's why I am not a judge...congrats to all and congrats to you for picking up a few for yourself.

What no "what sort of turning do you call that?" comments on Nick's new front page piece?

You do disappoint me!

(Only kidding)

As to whether some of the pieces justified inclusion - I would only add that I would not have liked to have been a judge on the day.  In my view there was a very much increased higher proportion of artistic turning which can surely only make the decision harder.

Johathan, thanks for the information.  But what is artictic?  Is that a British rendering of something that we Yanks need to know about?  I went to the etymology source that Ned so kindly shared with us the other day, and it doesn't figure there either.  Just wondering...

I know not whereof you speak (and have corrected it anyways!)

Jonathon

Still waiting for the "call that turning" comments...

"Nick's new front page piece" is a little small to be able to see very well. But it looks interesting. It reminds me of some of Tania Radda's work.

Ah, it wasn't labeled so I wasn't sure that was what it was referring too.

Looks like a bunch of flukes attacking a cell.

I like it.

Hmm okay - so perhaps the inner frame needs to be a little larger??

It's called Hermit 3 by Nick (and just Hermie) by us - a series of twisted metal rods going into a turned hollow form.  The real challenge was welding the rods together INSIDE the form without cracking it apparently.

Something very different - and one of an ilk that usually draws out the "it's not wood turning" purists.
