Got 'em started. Thanks to whoever gave the drill hole warning for the plastic points from woodcraft. They sort of spin, I just don't know how to do it. I am going to try to decorate them with a couple of things I haven't done before Smiley

Got mine to spin on the second try after I figured out how to wind them right.  I put pictures of the one I made for myself in the gallery.

Winding the top

For those of  you that are having trouble with winding the top, here's a short video of how it's done (this is for those who throw with the right hand).

Chris, after looking at your wind, I can't imagine how you got your top to work, but good for you  Cheesy

That's funny Rick, thanks for the video.  Mine is wound right, just upside down.  Looking at it the mechanics are the same but I imagine it may spin faster/longer winding it the 'official' way.

The best thing about these challenges, at least for me, is to see how many completely different ways everyone has of making something from the same basic instructions. Even something as simple and basic as a top brings out the diverse creativity in everyone.

It is pretty cool isn't it?  I would have thought that we had more entries for this one though...wonder what happened?

Sorry guys but this one was bad timing and weather and work.  I haven't seen my lathe is a long time and am not sure when I will again.  I really miss it.  GOt too many other irons in the fire that are taking priority and the biggest one is sleep, my sleep schedule is all messed up lately.

I'm no better off.  Haven't seen my lathe for several weeks now.  Did have a good time with my chainsaw in MS, but no time for lathe.  Maybe in the next week of two I can figure out how in the world to turn it on again.   8)

With all the dates flying around, I guess I'm a day late for the top challenge, but mine are out there now.
