Interview with new tool company CEO
Oct 22nd, 2005 at 12:09am

Hey Gang,

I had some time to talk to Paulo Marin of CET, inc. (the new woodturning tool company) while I was hanging out with Stuart recently.  I was able to talk Paulo into giving the WR readers a bit more info on his company, how Stuart is involved and what's in store for us, the consumers.

Here's the link, enjoy:

Nice Job Chris,

Looks like we need to start saving up now.

Hmmmm are they going to have a CW signature line? And a WR direct purchase price? Grin

Sounds like we'll need a WR direct price.

Chris, did you think to ask for a sample tool for a WR raffle/fundraiser?     8)

WOW!!!!!! Chris, nice job getting an exclusive like this. You could be working for the LA Times. That sounded great. I am excited about these new tools. Hey man, I also agree that we SHOULD support our american economy... We spend so much money buying crap from other countries. I don't know what these tools look like or how they perform. From what I can read, it looks like they have put a lot of thought and money behind it. All I can say is that they got my support. I am sure these tools will be awsome... Hey Chris, can you talk to this guy and convince him to give us one tool for our raffle? I am also interested to know what they will do with the Glaser tools. I own several glasers and I could not be happier. They are awsome tools. Grin

Not a bad idea guys, I had thought about that but haven't talked to Paulo about it yet.  I'll mention it to him next time we talk...maybe a new CET bowl gouge & handle for the next raffle.

Here's another tidbit too...Stu says the new tools will hold an edge many times longer than anything that is out there.  If that's the case, then holy moly!  Consider it, Glaser tools hold and edge 4-10 times longer than average HSS and if "anything that is out there" includes Glaser, you do the math.  My Glaser bowl gouges will cut the crap out of a bowl before needing a trip to the grinder.

Congrats on scoring the one-on-one.  Sounds like it's going to be a super line of tools.  And since most of us prefer turning to grinding....... Wink

Very nice interview Chris.  It will be interesting to see what comes from these very creative minds.  Did you get any kind of timeline for any of the new tools?  This year? Next?  Just want to keep Santa on notice.

Good question Rick.  From what I understand it will be just around Christmas when they come out.  Not sure if it's before or after.  Maybe I can get Paulo to join the boards and we can start a thread for you guys to ask questions, sort of a direct feedback forum?

If he'd like some 'direct' feedback, we'll be needing some prototype tools to evaluate, won't we   Wink Grin
