My goodness!
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. While I have been turning for that long, I am only a hobby turner and there have been frequent periods when my lathe has sat for months without being used while I was working on some other project. In other words "I ain't no guru..."
I probably should have posted that dovetail bowl in the "Oops" gallery, as you will know if you have read the article about its construction. The rim turned out reasonably well given how little I had to work with, but the real problem with it is that I got in a hurry and did the finish turning before the glue had really had enough time to cure. I used regular yellow woodworking glue on that one and did the finish turning about 8 hours after I glued it up. The glue held fine, but when the moisture finished coming out of the wood it left the glue line proud at every joint. It is not visible but it is quite noticeable to the touch. I suppose I could re-mount it and re-sand it, if I ever get one of those round tuit thingys.
The basic "bowl from a board" technique is one I read about and tried back when I first started turning, but had almost forgotten about until my wife got this old bowl out of the cupboard a month or two back and reminded me:

That one is white ash and done without the dovetail variation. I think it was the second or third bowl I ever turned. It is over 10 years old and still holding up well. It is wonderful the way you can turn such a large bowl from a single board foot of lumber, but the possible shapes are kind of limited.
Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome and I hope I can contribute something to the forum.
Take care
Bob
