It appears that not everyone is aware of the fact that Tim Geist (T.V. Geist Mfg) is the repair/replacement rep. for Teknatool in the U.S.

If you have problems with or need parts for any Teknatool product, including lathes, contact Tim @ 304.295.8166, 225 Neale Road, Parkersburg, WV 26105

Please make note of Tim's company info. It'll save you time in the future.

Hi:
I can attest to the fact that Tim will go the extra mile to make you a happy camper, as well.  When I bought my Nova DVR it came with a bonus SuperNova II chuck.  I already had a OneWay basic and Talon, and when I got the SuperNova I was not impressed.  It seemed quite stiff and the action was not very smooth.

I thought maybe the lubricant had gotten dried out inside it so I tried following the instructions in the manual for disassembly to replace the lube.  (Why did they feel it necessary to have lube in there, anyway?)  It was a major struggle, but I did finally get it apart.  I cleaned everything out with solvent and but in some white grease I had around, then put it back together.  It really didn't work any better, so I kind of stuck it on a shelf and forgot about it for several months.

A discussion on chucks in another forum made me think about it again and I decided to have another try.  I took it off the shelf and attempted to take it apart again.  After struggling with for a couple of hours I finally got the back plate off, but it was in several pieces.  My own fault:  I found that the set screw that locks the thread adaptor in place stands just enough proud to prevent the back plate from sliding over it.....

Anyway, I e-mailed Tim to order a new back plate.  He responded to my e-mail and suggested I give him a call because he wanted to check something out about my chuck.  When I called he asked me to look at a couple of things and we determined that my chuck had the older scroll plate and pinion gears that had since been re-designed.  I gave him my credit card number and asked him to ship the new plate and replacement parts.

When the package came it contained a new back plate, new pinions, and a new scroll plate along with a little container of the proper lube.  Cheesy  He must have considered the entire deal a warranty issue since he only charged me for the postage.  The chuck works much better now and I have been giving it about equal usage with my other two chucks.

A happy camper!
Cheesy

Bud thanks for the info on Tim.  I've been meaning to speak with someone from teknatool about my nova chucks.  Seems they've developed some 'slop' in a couple of the jaws.  Do you have an e-mail addy for Tim?  Anybody else have this problem?

I was told to call because he spent more time out than in the office.

Hi guys...

I just got my Nova Midi Chuck for Christmas and have already turned my first lidded box. Yay! Grin

However I've noticed a couple of problems.

Looking face-on at the chuck, the #4 jaw does not form a 90 section but is rotated just a smidge so that the jaws don't form a continuous circle. Is this something to be worried about?

If I have a problem, should I contact this fellow or send it back to WoodCraft?

I think I would contact Tim first.  I'm not sure you really have a problem, but he could tell you for sure.  The remedy, if there is a problem, would be quickest if you take it to Woodcraft and exchange it.   8)

Yeah, I did that.

It's still not quite lined up. Tim Geist should call me in the morning, and I'll ask him about it.

Thanks for the information guys..

If after talking to Tim, he feels you have a problem, take it back to WoodCraft.  They can return it for a full credit, adn you don't have to pay shipping.

BTW, I got my Midi chuck too.

Hi, I'm not new to this forum, I read and follow many of your suggestions.  But I've been trying to buy a Nova Chuck for my lathe and am not having any luck.  Woodcraft says they don't make an adapter for my lathe, it's a Central Machinery, has a 3/4 inch, 8 pt. thread.  I know it's not as nice as a Jet but for now it works for me when I'm just starting to turn.  I tried to contact Tim in West Viginia but the number was a fax line.  I'm tired of gluing wood chucks and would like to advance to a Nova.  Can anyone help????

thanks,  Lance

Hi, Lance:
I know that Oneway will custom thread an adaptor for their chucks, so maybe Nova will too.  The Oneway adaptors are not compatable with Nova chucks since Oneway uses a "Taper Lock" adaptor where Teknatool uses an adaptor that is threaded on both the inside and the outside.

Are you absolutely positive on your size?  Usually 3/4" shafts would be 16 tpi or at the most 10 tpi.

Take care
Bob

It is a combination phone line, it is still ringing the voice line when the fax responds.  Wait about a minute for him to answer.  His hours are 6:00AM - 11:00AM and Noon - 2:30PM EST, most weekdays.
