JET Variable speed mini lathe
NOVA G3 4 jaw chuck
BEGINNER SET OF HENRY TAYLOR TOOLS

Ok, so i am somewhat experienced at this point in my turning, and with the delivery of several new tools, I shall review said tools!

JET VS mini lathe:

Once again, the company to beat is JET. This lathe is cram-packed with features that inferior lathes only dream about. With a 10" swing, and the possibility of lengths of 37" (with the optional bed extension), this machine is ideal for a tremendous amount of applications. Anyone from a beginner, buying their first lathe to a production turner, adding a new workstation can appreciate this wonderful piece of equipment! The genius pulley/ trap door system makes switching speeds and changing belts a 5 second process while keeping the inner working of the machine well protected. The 15 "settings" range in speed from 500 rpm's to 3900, but with the variable speed control, you can operate at virtually any rpm between the top and bottom numbers! It is small and light enough to be set up and used confortably just about anywhere, yet it is heavy enough to be solid, and strong. An excellent piece of equipment!

Nova G3 4 jaw chuck

Another product that has been fine tuned through the process of experience! The key pinion fits inside the body of the chuck much better, which allows for more leverage when tightening. The precision of all the parts is amazing. A quality tool that was made to do one thing, and do it well. This chuck also boasts a new AUTO STOP feature that keeps the jaw slides on the chuck without the possibility of shearing a stop screw. It is Unconditionally guaranteed for 2 years, and comes with woodworm screw, 2" dovetail jaws, and other neccessary goods for operation. The perfect match for the Jet mini, or any other lathe with a 14" swing or smaller for that matter!

BEGINNER SET OF HENRY TAYLOR TOOLS

1/2" Bowl Gouge
3/8" Spindle Gouge
1" Round Point Scraper
1/2" Skew Chisel
Diamond Parting Tool

These tools are from the Artisan line. Made by Henry Taylor, the surfaces of Artisan tools are not as finely polished as the Henry Taylor tools, but the quality of the steel and price range make them an excellent value for the beginning turner. An absolute excellent set of tools for any beginner. These tools will keep you busy for a very long time! The set has a perfect combination for a starter, or someone simply looking for good tools.

The 1/2" bowl gouge is an absolute monster. The design and shape of the flute make it a very handy tool, for both large and suprisingly small projects. Versatility at it's finest.

The 3/8" Spindle Gouge is perfect for tons of spindle work. It is well balanced, and very comfortable to use.

The 1" Round Point Scraper is a very solid scraper, ready for years of use. Excellent for making quick work on bowls.

The 1/2" Skew Chisel leaves nothing to the imagination. A serious tool for serious turning. whatever the chore, this Skew is armed and ready for action! What an awesome tool.

And finnaly, the Diamnod parting tool. This is the parting tool to end all parting tools. A large, strong parting tool with lots of bevel that just begs to be rubbed!

All of these fine tools, and truckloads more goodies can be found in the woodturners Catalog (the catalog for Craft Supplies). A top notch company, with customer service second to none. When you order, tell em Junior sent ya. They won't give you a discount or anything, but they might add more tape to your box to make it impossible to get into Grin

I heard that CA was developed for the medical industry for "suturing" purposes.

Is that true?

And Jr. I ain't throwing down on your tats, but after 14 years as an auto-mechanic I've spent lots of time avoiding getting lacerated, crushed and pierced. I see no point in changing that now!  Grin

Hey and congrats on the new stuff. I see you're already enjoying it! And great review by the way... You might oughta check into writing, it sure beats bangin yourself up installing flooring! I got outa auto-mechanics for several reasons, but one of them was the "beat me up" factor.

To me Tattooing is kind of like voluntarily jumping out of a perfectly good airplane.  I'm not into pain, and avoid it where ever I can.

JimQ, I have done that as well!!! For my 23rd, and my brother's 21st birthdays, our dad took us skydiving!

I LOVE bikes, a panhead seat with a tat shop down the block would be ok with me!! I would havta get some turning time (on the clock) to test out all those fancy tools to write reviews!!

Tattoo's are alot like turning, drinking, smoking, drugs, etc. etc... VERY ADDICTIVE! most people either have none, one, or at least four or five. For me, it is more about the finished product. I think they also attest to my physical toughness. Some of the places i have inked, are very painful to injur.

I wanted to write a decent review, in hopes that it may help someone looking into starting. And craft supplies is THE company for turning!
