walnut oil

I'm trying Mahoney's Walnut oil for the first time I slopped it on a shallow bowl & wiped of the excess & today sanded with 800 grit then I put more oil on.

so now I should just buff with Carnuba wax? (I wanted a food safe bowl & don't have the money right now to try the Waterlox  Ron suggested to me.

Chuck,I tried the walnut oil on a few of my bowls and was told by the fellow who suggested it,to let it set for about a week, then you can put whatever wax on you desire.Thats what I do when I use my home brew danish oil.You will get different opinions on the food safe topic, but after 3 or 4 weeks most all finishes are food safe.I have read many different articals on that subject and it all depends on who you ask about it.

Chuck,

If your going to actualy use the bowl, you could just go with the walnut oil.  By not putting the wax on, it would alow for more oil to be applied when needed.  I'll put a couple good wet coats on letting them sit a 1/2 hr or so before wiping off.  If you leave the bowl to dry for a few days in the sun, the walnut oil will actualy start to harden up.  Without the wax, it leaves a rather nice satin finish.
