Butterfly patching

Lips Sealed Has anyone used the butterfly method of patching cracks in bowls. If so, how did you go about preping the outline to accept the butterfly patch, routing or cut and chisel? Any other method being used besides just CA glue.

Cut your "butterfly" from a heavy paper, place it upon your piece, scribe the outline w/an exacto knife, or similar, cut your "butterfly" from a very thin piece of wood, copper, silver, gold, etc., clear out your scribed outline w/an exacto knife or small chisel going alittle bit deeper than the thickness of the "butterfly", glue in your "butterfly" and sand smooth.

It also doesn't have to be a "butterfly" shape, use you imagination to come up w/a shape that compliments your piece.

WinkOK, butterfly patch worked out . Now..... does the USA Gold CA glue dry dark when mixing wood particles and wood dust to fill around natural openings to reduce the size of hole? I will be using DO after all is done then buffing and wax. Roll Eyes

CA will dry clear.  Only color will be the color of the dust that you mix in.

It's always safer to test on scrap then on the project
