Great Video
Jun 14th, 2008 at 6:15am

This great little 4 minute video is pack with so much instructional information on turning, it shouldn't be missed.

You have to download this 24meg video for it to work.  I've already watched it 3 this this morning.

Ron,
Excellent video. I would have thought he would have used the router to get the shape after hollowing?

The wood is more stable (firm) when it's solid and less prone to wobble.
Also, he's using the cut from the router as a depth gauge. When he sees the tool he knows he's finished cutting that section.

I'm trying to figure that one out too.

I know there is a depth gauge by the router bit. But I draw a blank after that.

The cables are attached to 3 pulley's, which in turn are attached to the hand wheel. It looks like this pulls the router across the face of the piece, but I don't see the router actually attached to the cables anywhere in the video.

If you look at the string, how it is routed. When he pulles the router twards himself, it rotates the spindle of the lathe X degrees.
Very cool, thanks for the link.

Yup Ed's very good at figuring how things like this work. He's helped me with a bunch of my newbie woodwork questions.

The video was great.
I hadn't heard that Weird Al song before; I know lots of people (usually men) who feel that way about hardware stores!
