forum software question
Aug 4th, 2008 at 11:59am

Gents,
more out of curiosity than anything else, is there a reason that YaBB tries to access my clipboard every time I post? Since the answer is (so far at least) 'No' as a matter of course, I was wondering what causes that. I checked in the profile controls and don't see a switch box for that. TIA

Ned

No problem Ned.  The software for this site automatically wants to add your post to a clipboard.  The reason is that sometimes there are issues or glitches that cause a lengthy post to get lost and not post.  I believe that if you will click the "yes" button that you will quit getting that message.  I will just kind of automatically copy your posts to the clipboard and if you loose your post you can open a reply box, hit ctrl + v and you'll have your post again, ready to post.  Hope that clears up that issue for you.

HeyDoug
I understand what you are saying but I have two computers here and on one computer it does it but on the other it does not.  I find it to be a very huge irritant and would like to be able to stop it.  If you know how I would sure appreciate it.

OH and clicking on allow does not stop the message from happening, it happens everytime I post regardless of what I click.

I'm on two different computers through the day, and this is the first time I heard about this.

Just guessing here....

What browser are you using?

Internet Explorer on both but two different versions.  The one with the newer version of IE is the one that does the accessing to the notepad.

I'm limited (work computer) to IE 7 with moderate security levels. And saying 'yes' earlier didn't change the situation at all. Now that I know what it is, I'm less 'concerned 'with it. Still 'annoying', of course.

Ned, both computers & software have been annoying since I first accessed the "web" in 1984. Could George Orwell be right just 50 years too early?  Undecided  Grin

I use IE on desktop and Safari on iPhone.  IE asks me the question mentioned but Safari doesn't.

I use Firefox on both of my computers.  When we started up the new software, I got the message the first couple of posts on both computers.  I don't get it on either one now.  Curious that some still get it and others don't.  Maybe it isn't working on all of our computers.  Derek, could you check this out for us?  Could there be a glitch in the coding?  I know, it's never happened before  Roll Eyes, but maybe just this once there's actually a glitch.

If I use IE, I get the notice.  If I use Firefox or Netscape, No notice.

I have found that one system will "remember" some things and not others.  In my administrative stuff, Firefox will remember my password in one particular spot where IE never does.  That's one reason why I'm a Firefox guy now.

I believe that it is an IE7 issue.  IE7 is a little more picky about security items, and notifying you of them.  The other browsers either just block it, or do it without the warning.

I just tested, and in Firefox I do not get the message, but my message was not copied to the clipboard.
