I was wondering if we could start having a regular time for a group chat. We could pick an evening and a time and have weekly chats on different turning topics. Has this been tried? Or is it just a dumb idea?

It's been tried, and dropped due to lack of interest.  The chat is always open.  Most days there are a few people in there in the evenings.  Who and when?  Depends on what time zone they live in.  I usually stop in around 8pm AZ time.
