Scary Sharp Technique - final steps
Sep 5th, 2008 at 1:00pm

I have followed the discussion on the 'scary sharp' tool sharpening technique and have become a true believer. However, a few of the final steps in the procedure were left off the list. Here they are:

1. Complete sharpening procedure as previously stated on another thread.
2. Test edge of tool carefully with fingertip (age old tried and true technique). Issue appropriate sound effects.
3. Place clean dry rag on fingertip to slow bleeding.
4. Inspect the quality of the slice in fingertip between rag applications.
5. If a clean surgical slice is observed continue to step 6, if not pleased with the quality of the slice then repeat steps above.
6. Apply small amount of CA to seal the wound (one of the original uses of CA glue).
7. Clean blood from all surfaces and dispose of blood soaked rags before spouse alerted by sound effects.
8. Explain that the "special" staining on the turned item is a difficult and costly process that you are keeping secret.
