New Gallery Site
Feb 3rd, 2009 at 8:26pm

Just launched my woodturning gallery site:  http://pollockon.com/wood/

I used wordpress so it's in blog format.  Feedback welcomed, love to hear about your ideas.

thanks!  , the circles are cut on the lathe, the center-edge lines are cut with dremel, the color is applied twice with india ink (faber castel paint tips - expensive ).  It takes twice to get a deep color.

Any thoughts on the site?  things I should add or take away? Format?

thanks so much all,

Polluck,
I agree with Dave great work & was also wondering the same thing.

I do have a suggestion on you pics why don't you annotate what finish you used?

Yes, I need to do a better job.  I was in a hurry to get the site up and did a poor job of documentation.

I have tried all kinds of finishes, am still not happy, may never be...

Would love to hear your finish "war stories", what works best for you all.

Your site looks nice. I really like the way the header bar interacts with the mouse. You've got some nice-looking work displayed, too.

Since you're trying to sell pieces, I'm not sure how important the type of finish is to potential customers. Sure, we turners like to know what the other guys are using, but I suspect most customers don't know the difference between linseed oil and Antique Oil  (or really care). Just my $0.02.  Smiley

Nice sight, but I don't care for all the adds on the left, if you must have them, then place them on another page, not your front page, I'd want that information with rest of my non wood turning topic's. The stuff I'm speaking of is all that below your... Categories list.

Like Vaughn, I like the way the header bar interacts with the mouse and I'd put this at the bottom of the page and centered if possible in smaller letters too...

Other than that it's a cool looking sight, you did good... just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks all, Great feedback!!

I moved some of the adds, actually the google feed is quite interesting, they match keywords against your site and then send links based on that.  Wasn't sure about the amazon one showing wood turning tools. Maybe too tacky for a gallery site.

I just figured out the ad thing and maybe went a little crazy.  Now that I know, it's quite easy to do.  Write me and I will help you if you need it.

I added some separate pages and put some how-to type videos on them from youtube: ehow and expert village, seems to work better with a large video in a page by itself.

Almost done and I can get back to doing what I really like, woodturning!

btw - -someone wrote and ask me to change my name, use my real name --  this is my real name.
