Yes.

One tip, don't try to think of a different design for every piece.  Concentrate on a few basic designs and work at those to get practice and you can then refine designs as you go.  I used to try to make different bowls every time until my wife suggested making the ones I liked making best because a good design is worth repeating.  It sure took a lot of frustration out of my turning.

Hey

Truth be told, I really have no idea what is going to be the finished piece.

Normally I start turning between centres, have a "basic" idea and go from there. Ok thats a simplified version, but to me, wood has a special characteristic and it comes out during the turning process: I might start with a 2kg piece and it ends up as a bottle stop. Just depends what I see and how it turns at the time. yes I think "thats going to be a bowl" and its a bowl, but not all the time..

Hope that makes sense..
