well its not a new tool gloat however my wife is currently making me a woodworking smock.  It will be similar to a lab coat with sleeves (my arms are always coated in shavings and im not the least hairy guy in the world if you know what I mean so its not cool), and made from a khaki colored denim.  Its going to be great!

Hope she doesn't put pockets on the front.  They would fill up with wood chips.

I didnt think about the pockets, and I definitely should have... bang head bang head bang head

Its funny because when turning this afternoon I wore a t-shirt with a pocket on the front and it filled up with shavings.  Then, at the fabric store, I saw the lab coat pattern and thought WOW that is awesome, "thats the one I want."  I guess some things take me longer to realize.

I asked her to put a small flap over the bottom pockets so that should help.  Ill leave the top pocket because I want a place for my pencil.

Id shave my arms but thats just too much work.  lol, besides all my friends would know that I did since they know me.  Usually I take my shop vac to the arms (I know it sounds ridiculous but it works) and its much better than just dusting off.  Wow, I cant believe how weird this sounds.  I cant be the only one though that has to go through this when turning right???  What do my other fellow coated turners do?  lol

Use an air compressor after turning.  Just blow the dust off your arms, clothes, shoes, and Smiley hair.  And if you wear sandals, they don't fill with chips.

I also use the vacuum all over me after i'M DONE.

You could have your wife do it this way instead put the pockets in the back so they won't get covered with chips. I also would suggest you add a couple of pen/pencil poskets on one of the arms.

Under Armour tee shirts are the best thing I found for turning.  The chips does not stick to it and the collar is tight enough to stop chips from falling down my neck.

+1 on the Under Armour, especially in the heat of Florida. I did have a hard time justifying $25 for a T-shirt but it is worth it.

I use the cheapest (and toughest) solution for removing chips - I brush myself down with the head of a yard brush.  Us Irish boys are as hard as nails.

Pencil pockets on the arm is an AMAZING idea.  Then it will have a nifty work look to it.  I also like the back pocket idea.  Well my wife is going to kill me because I keep changing my mind but thats ok.  lol

LOL.  Its good to know.  Shes super frustrated because of sewing machine difficulties.  I showed her the pics on this thread and got the "are you SURE thats what you want now" look...  We were up till 3 trying to get a tiny screw stuck inside and then we couldnt reassemble it.  It really made church this morning rough.  lol.  I told her to see if WR had a sister forum for sewers but I doubt it would be as cool.

Also tell her that the cuffs should be tight fitting so they do not catch in moving machinery.
