Hello everyone,

I'm new here.  I've been turning for just long enough to know that I don't really know how to turn.  I thought this would be a good place to pick up some tips and tricks.  I'm sure I'll be bombarding everyone with multiple questions soon, so get ready for some head shaking and eye rolling... tangos in the house!  Cool

Welcome.  Your questions are expected and even desired.  We look forward to helping along the way.  You can count on some ribbing along the way as well.  But, all in good fun.

We are a huge family here, so would you please go back into your profile and change your name to your real name, both first and last.  It makes for a much more pleasant discussion knowing who we are talking to.  I just sent a private message with the details.  Thanks.

Hey, great I love ribs.  I'm sure I'll get some genuinely good pointers and some off-the-wall comments too.  Good fun is the only kind of fun I like to have, so I'm totally psyched about this forum.   smiley=thumbsup.gif

PS, changed the name back to the original.  Been in the service so long I almost forgot my first name... I just go by Tango.

Good thing they keep such good records here! Grin

Hi Charlie,

And welcome.  You are in the land of the Wivamac lathe, a very desirable bit of gear and one that is tempting me a lot.

We love pictures!  So, don't be shy about showing your work or shop.  If you want to post pics (finished pieces) in the gallery you need to register there too.  Other pics can be posted in the forums.

Hope you have a pleasant stay here, this lot aren't as innocent as they let on - I got grabbed over a year ago and I haven't managed to escape yet.

Keep ya tools sharp and ya wood... well safe, we got some wood junkies around here like Ken, Chuck, Dave, and a few others, but they can't get to it in Belgium so you should be safe!

Wivamac... never heard of him.  I'm sure typing it into Google would be pretty simple, but what the heck does google know... it's not even a real word!  Plus, So, any info you could throw my way on this here wivamac fella would be helpful.  I'm debating whether to pick up a new lathe or not.... maybe wivamac could sway my decision.

Anyway, back to the subject.  I'm planning on submitting some pics to the gallery but have to re-shoot 'em.  Some jerk went and adjusted my camera for a better picture so naturally the pics look horrible now  Grin  (yep, I'm a jerk).

So when I post the pics what size should I format them to?

Post pictures of your finished work in the gallery.  It is seperate software and requires that you also register there.  You will be able to upload pics that are =/<75 Meg.

Welcome Charlie,

Not been on here long myself, but the help and laughs have been great.

Just have a good joke and show loads of pics. The WR. rule number one seems to be if no pics. it didn't happen.

Great people on here that love to help.

WOW WOW WOW, those are nice!  I have to give you the utmost thanks in pointing me to this site.  I have just contacted them about attending a woodturning class.  This is an opportunity I could have only hoped for prior to joining this site and reading your reply.

I am honestly too grateful for words, but I'll give it a shot anyway.  I have been searching for a woodturning store/class in Belgium or Holland for some time, but have had no success.  The area I live in is the French region of Belgium, and english is not spoken.  The store I have found is completely devoted to tool purchases.  They do have a few lathes, but no wood, no classes, or no real help other than tool purchases, so this site is a HUGE opportunity.

Again, I cannot thank you enough for your knowledge and help.

I'll let you all know how this pans out, I'm seriously excited now   Cheesy Grin Cheesy

I owe you a million thanks  smilies=bowdown

You're very welcome.  If you end up with one of those lathes I'll be very jealous.
