ren fest
Nov 17th, 2009 at 7:27pm

We have been approached about possibly setting up next year at a Ren. Fest.. It occupies every weekend for about 2 months.
I know the items we do right now will not be big sellers there, so will probably do cups, mugs ect. Any other ideas?

Have any of you ever set up at one of these?

What do you think about setting up a foot lathe and turning there? I believe it would draw in people.

We know we have to decide soon, both for securing the spot and building up the inventory.
We are really debating on this, so any ideas advice ect will greatly welcomed.

thanks
Brad

miniature lances (jousting weapon) about 18" long? Painted with coats of arms or other simple emblems.

Yes
We have a family friend that has been doing that one for about 20 years.

Glyn,
I really like that idea.  Smiley
Is it something you have seen or made?

Brad,
We have a local ren fair that runs all summer. They do jousts daily. They sell lots of wooden swords and shields to the little ones after the knights fight. I have not seen anyone turn or sell lances, I just had the inspiration when you mentioned it. Might have to investigate this myself.

The lances are usually painted in 'team' colors' with additional emblems on the hand gaurd.  I think they would sell well. search wiki for designs. I would get stencils from Michaels craft store for emblems, horse heads, dragons, etc. They should be easy to turn and quick to decorate. I am also thinking that adults might like smaller fancier ones as well. OOooooh, maybe a modified desk pen design!

Try it and see.

Brad,
You got some excellent ideas. Harry potter wands, Lances, desk pens. I like the stencils also.

Great ideas indeed!!!
I have been to ren fests all over the country even sold at a couple (not turnings though) and I don't remember ever seeing small lances, sounds great as does the wands.
Glad I brought it up here, was thinking mainly mugs, cups and candle sticks, but now.
Chuck, your close enough, if we do this you could bring up some customized pen sets and "other" theme stuff.
