Hey Herb, I don't know which have the reeve pulley, but here is a photo of what a reeve system and a step pulley looks like.

That Reeves is a strange looking thing. Many Many Thanks on the pictures. Sure looks like the step pully would be more dependable & trouble free.
Looks like Jet would have interchangable step pullys so you could change to the speeds you like. Dont know why anyone would use a reeves being less reliable. I hate pot metal especially aluminium.

Well... I have the Jet 1220VS and the Jet Jet 16 x 42 EVS, 1-1/2 HP and their both step pulley system. The mini is manily used for turning pen's which it is great for that and the 16 X 42 is for larger turning's.

Maybe some of the others on here will chim in and let you know what's on their... but I do know most if not all of the Grizzly lathe's use the reeve's system, I went through 3 set's of pulley's when I owned the grizzly.

experience sayes it all. A good new lathe is expensive, atleast for me. Any draw back on the 16x42 dependability wise. Herb

No Sir... I'm very pleased with it and happy I got it over any of the other lathe's in its price range. I would of loved the Monster (PM) but for almost the exact same bells and whistles... between the two... I'm Happy and I saved alot of cash and their made by the same company with the same warrentee.

And he still has somewhere to go for larger. Grin Grin  The 1442 is the only one that still has a Reeves drive.  A long time ago, they used to make a 12" lathe on a longer frame than the 1220, and that one had a Reeves drive.  I think they sized it up to the 1442 and dropped it.

Herb,
I also have the same as Wizz but my Jet mini is a non-vs model it only takes a few seconds to change pulleys. I also have the Jet 1642 EVS 1-1/2 HP & just recently used it it's smooth as glass & can hardly hear it running. The reason I got these is basically the same as Wizz.  I didn't like all the extra work & frustration of a reeves system.

I just got off the phone with JET. They said the reeves pully was in 2 models,  12x36 and 14x42.

Yep... your going to love that little Monster! Just make sure you get your piece centered as best ya can and start out on low speed and work your way up till it starts to vibrate and then back off just a tad till it stops and your good to go till you get it rounded, then ya can turn your speed up to where your comfortable with it and have at it!!!

Gongrads on the New lathe, your going to love it, that's for sure!!!
