Hello all!

Originally from Cali, currently in Okinawa. Only been turning for about 4-5 months so far and really enjoying it. Really starting to get into the pens at the moment and will see were it goes from there.

Spent a few years at Naha myself, but spent more time skin diving than wood turning - after all, Okinawa has lots more ocean than wood.

Welcome.

Welcome to this not so little corner of the vortex, there is no escape.

Okinawa is turning into a turning center.  Joshua Essary is also there.  You 2 need to look each other up.  Might be the start of a new AAW chapter.

At least I have been trying to help out with my limited knowledge. But I think we can normally bounce the problems here and between us and come up with a solution. Or at least a way to MAKE it work. It may not be right and it may not be pretty but it will work. smiley=thumbsup.gif

Back on the ooooooooooooooold days - just after the Aqualung was invented - we called it skin diving (as opposed to suit diving).  The SCUBA acronymn didn't come around until later.  But it doesn't matter what you call it, it's a lot of fun and Okinawa is a premiere spot, especially on the south end of the island - lots of caves full of lobsters there (the South China Sea ones without claws - but they still taste as good).

So, get someone to mind the 2 yr. old and go diving - you'll hate yourself later if you miss the opportunity.

Yes you will!!! I try to go when the water is warmer and the surronding Islands have some great spots saw a 3' sea turtle and a blue spotted ray last year my other half got chased by a sea snake and almost lost control of her bowels when I showed it to her and it was about a foot and a half behind her. (it had been following her for about 15 mins) and up by the aquarium there is a spot where you can dive with 2 40' whale sharks. Get your dive cert done and we can leave your daughter at home with Mama and we'll go! Cheesy
