C&T Frequency Poll
Jun 1st, 2010 at 12:04pm

How often would you like to see C&T's?  I have had a bunch PM's asking why we didn't run them more often.  Several came from members that didn't participated in this or other recent C&T's.

Are you interested in helping set the Specifications for future C&T's?  If so, PM me.  We had several committee members, but those members are no longer active on the forum.  I am going to form a new C&T committee.  We may rotate members in and out periodically if we have enough interest.  2 or 3 other members at a time plus me.

Any comments or suggestions?  Now is the time to make them.

BTW, you have 30 minutes to delete your vote, and then revote, if you change your mind after thinking about it.

Personal feeling is they should be run often, there are things I have never considered prior to doing a c&t.
I do one type of turning and do it fairly well, but in all the other stuff I am worse then a begginer, because I already have my bad habits and style. The C&T's help me as a turner and they are a blast to do.
I won't always do ever C&T, but I will get in on some of them for above mentioned reasons.

I am more then willing to serve a time on a committee say 2-3 months, but would want to rotate out after that.

I feel it's good to have these C&Ts for all the reasons Brad mentioned as well as others. I like to see what others come up with, it's great for the creative process. I hope in the future more people participate.

I'd like to see more as well, this past C&T wasn't a good time for me... but, if your going to be doing "more" I'd be interested as well.

If you think they are fun to watch but you wouldn't enter, tell us why.

Quarterly is about the right pace for me.  I could realistically do 3-4 a year.  I know a lot of work goes into setting them up and administering them but I enjoy them a lot!

I was just thinking (yep happens on occation), does it really matter how often they are run? 2000+ members and 10 or 12 take part...
Now if we had a few doz. or even 100(s) taking part in them then yeah... 3-4 times a year would be plenty. Just for the sanity of those organizing.

Every three months is good for me. I don't participate in every one so that gives more options to be involved.

It might be a possibilty, depending on interest, to have a 'First Timers' only C&T. That way noobs aren't intimidated. Then they'll see how much fun it is!

Im fairly new around here and was very excited about the springtime C&T I even made a small hollow form out of mahogany with a lilac finial but work busted loose with some mega hoour weeks so I didnt get it finished in time to get it in. I was real disapointed when i realized, Ankle deep in wyoming mud that it was the last day to get it in. Ill be ready for the next one though, Looking forward to it. If you need any help with the next one let know what I could do to help. ......Andy

I love the C&Ts but I can't enter many of them because my skill level is not up to par.  I'd hate to receive a beautiful piece of work and send something that looks like it was turned by a chainsaw.  As a beginner there aren't that many things that I'm comfortable trying yet.  I do love seeing the great things that happen in your workshops.  Even though I've never participated I'm still trying to duplicate the results of more accomplished turners.  As a matter of fact I was trying to prepare some blanks for inside out ornaments when I stupidly hurt myself.  And on that note, I have regained 95% range of motion and I'm regaining grip strength...so bring on the C&Ts.  I'll be ready.

Robert, that is what the C&T is all about.

Helping new turners to the next level and seeing other turner's works. You can learn a lot by seeing what others do on the lathe.
