Selling ya scrap
Aug 9th, 2010 at 7:36am

I was thinking of what I could do with all of the offcuts of wood that are sat in my shop and thought of jewellery. Some with bark on, some not round, some holes are cut with the piece untrue, to make a different shaped hole etc. etc.

A friend saw them and took some to the UK. within two days she asked me for 40 at 5 Euros each. 200 Euros I thought, great for my scrap. I am lucky and only need to make a bit of beer/cigs etc. money and to be able to fund my fun at the lathe. She tells me that more orders will soon be on the way to me..........yippee. Only 5 Euros each, but for the offcuts its great.

Just thought that I would post here, just in case anyone else has an offcut delema and needed an idea. They will be selling for Ł15 to Ł20 each in the UK. So in the US. maybe $20 - $25 ?? ( Markup is necessary for all to make a buck, so this is ok. by me. I sell them on my market stall for 8-16 Euros each.

Critique etc. is always welcome and needed, for the journey to be a better woodturner. Thanks for looking.

weather wood is very rare to find all most as rare fog wood
weather wood is a piece of wood on a string that you hang out side
1 if it is wet  its raining
2 if it is moving it is windy
3if it is going in small circle means tornado
4 if it is at 90 degree leave
5 if it has ice on it it is cold
6 if it is missing  some one stole it
that my dear friends is weather wood

Nick,

I think that makes it around the price that I sell them on my Market stall for, the larger ones anyway, but for bulk, I am happy at 5 Euros, for now anyway. Good luck on the sales............

I would be too. The galleries take their 50%. If you ever need help filling an order let me know.

I have no idea how much a euro is going for these days. I sure somebody will tell me.

On some of the larger disks, I sell to a basket weaver who uses weaves baskets around the disk.

I just can stand throwing anything away.

The basket idea sounds good. This island is full of ladies making baskets etc. for the local markets, of which there are many. I may even use some discs/disks as lids for boxes etc. see how they look.

HMMMMM. a necklace for the lid on a box containing a bracelet and a ring ????????? even ear rings etc. Thinkin out loud sorry............ Shocked

SHMBO saw one of these in a book somewhere.  It's now on my to-do list.  Do you get both sides the same?  I mean with the tapered hole?

Jim's about right........

Mainly, if I can get it Pepper wood, some Mimosa and a trillion d"*"&"&" Palm trees. I end up using old broom handles for small spinning tops, chair/table legs for bigger ones and the tops of them for platters, bread boards etc. mainly other peoples cast offs. I have to wait for a call when someone is cutting a tree down, but thats become rare at the moment, so driftwood here I come. Anyone need to get rid of a ton of Cherry or something and happy to pay the postage, PLEASE feel free to ask me if I will accept it..... Roll Eyes Cool

Lark......I write my name etc. on the back, but that's just me, the holes that I cut out with the piece off centre are flat on the back, but I think to have both sides similar is a good idea, for when they turn over etc. good point . smiley=thumbsup.gif
