From an old nooby
Aug 17th, 2010 at 11:12am

My name is Ray Gill and although I am a Texan by birth, I call San Diego my home. I am 82 years old and just returning to turning after 60 years or so. I have been into wood for many years although mostly in the house remodeling line(not commercially). I am an ex Marine which brought me to San Diego for the Korean conflict and after the service I joined an Aero-space company for 34 years developing guided missiles. I retired early and have been enjoying the good life in SD since 1986. My shop is an adjunct to my garage and is 14' by 24' with a 9' overhead door at one end plus a walk-in door; gives good ventilation and access. I just took delivery on a Delta 12" var. speed midi lathe and have made a couple of pens, an ice cream scoop and two coffee scoops using oak, koa and antler. I haven't tried a bowl yet but my Nova G3 chuck is just waiting for it's chance. That will have to wait a few weeks however as I will be getting a new knee on 1 Sept. Thanks for the welcome Ron and I expect to learn a lot from the accumulated experience of the members.

If Chuck turned it, there's a chance there'd be a hole in the middle.  Grin
