Latest project (non-turning)

Since Brad asked in my (re) intro thread, I thought I would share what I did this weekend...custom motorcycle tank bib, fully wet molded around the bottom of the tank to create a full wrap.  The design was hand tooled (artwork provided by the client) and is in the process of being colored a deep crimson red.  The rest of the bib will be black.  Spent more time today dying/painting the darn thing than it took me to tool & wet mold it!

This is the first of 3 that I have to do this week (3 different clients)...fortunately the next two designs are easier with one of them being all black.

Forgot to mention, and Rev will love this...this one and the next one both sport religious symbols.  The next one is getting the fish symbol at the bottom with the pocket up top.  At least the last one is the typical "Flames" motif.  Wink

Thanks guys.  These bibs are actually for Honda Shadow Aero 750s.  The bikes aren't custom but the bibs are.  The normal bibs you can find in parts catalogs only protect the very center of the tank and narrow down to just a 3" wide strip at the bottom so they don't do much to protect against jeans or chaps rubbing on the tanks.  This style keeps the paint in the lower corners nice and adds a bit of style at the same time.  Wink

Beautiful work, Chris.

Do you just happen to have the same bike, or do they leave theirs with you for a custom fit? How does that work?

I love your avatar too. Really cool work.  smiley=thumbsup.gif

Hey Mike,

I have a 2005 Aero 750 and my wife has a 2006 Spirit 750 so I have those two covered.  I can do other bikes but that requires the person bring the bike to me for measurements, etc.  Thanks for the compliments!

Right on. That's pretty cool.

I got my Leather Working Merit Badge when I was younger, and I can remember how hard it was to make a tiny flower look right. It's pretty hard to imagine how much work you put into those pieces.
