My Shop
Sep 18th, 2010 at 4:11pm

I spent nearly 30 seconds cleaning my shop up for these pics. It's not as good as some of the beauties that I have seen on WR. but its home !!!!!14' x 14' ish.

I think that it's time to tidy up, just a little bit !!!!

BTW. I have to store wood inside, as it's just too hot outside, without a good shelter over it. Cool No bugs in the house YET !!!

Leo,
Looks good you need to hang shelves to get more foot room less chance to trip.

But why? I saw numerous blank spaces where bench top space was at least big enough to toss down a pair of pliers or a short bowl gouge. Don't do anything precipitous. I usually wait until the tools are two layers deep.

nice.  only problem i see is the metal chop saw.  with all the sparks and hot metal it shoots out the back, mixed with the sawdust, you have the potential for fire.  i have one and when i use it, i set it up so that is toward the open garage door and out into the driveway.

Looks like a lived-in home to me, Leo.  smiley=thumbsup.gif  It might not make the swimsuit edition of Shops Illustrated, but I'll bet you know where stuff is, and I know you have fun and get stuff made in there. That's the most important part.  Wink

I agree with the more foot room, the metal saw is used for wood, so no probs. it's a bit fast but works like a dream. I like to leave it until the tools are two deep aswell, it would be three deep, but I ain't got enough tools. I know were everything is, that is true, but I am always lookin' for stuff.

thanks for lookin' ( do not wait until your shop gets this bad....CLEAN UP NOW..hehehehehe

Your shop looks pristine to me - you should see mine!  I am reorganising and sealing the space between the walls and roof (wasn't done 60 years ago when it was built) to close off draughts because last Winter it was -2C outside and -8C inside on some days.  I am also making space for new toys but more of that later (Jim Q. will fall off his chair).

LOL, for once I'm telling the truth.  The saw I ordered has jumped in price and will do so again in January when Sales Tax increases.  A dealer who has been giving me great advice told me of the impending price increases and offered to get me a saw and hold it until I get to see him when I will pay the old price.  There is also a currency conversion issue (I am going over the border to Rep. of Ireland) but he has also solved that without cost to me so I have decided to go ahead and buy.

The saw is a Record BS400, 12" depth and 2hp so it's more than I need but that's never a bad thing.  Here's a link to the Record site Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register , if you navigate the Product area you can see the saw.  I have been deliberating over this for a long time and the deciding factor was Record's 5 year guarantee.  I'm sure this saw is a clone of loads of others but, hopefully, it will be as good as the BS350 I have seen in action and heard so much good about.

I hope to get the saw in a few weeks when the dealer's order arrives for a big Record show he is hosting.

I am glad to show my shop, as it usually looks, at least it's not been air brushed or cleaned up too much, for the pics. Wink

Thanks for the comments guys.

I cut up a 15' tree in there and then roughed out a load of bowls, before any cleaning up, the shavings were all over everything and about 3' deep. I am so ashamed that I forgot to take pics. I rarely do so much in one go, so may never be so untidy again........... bang head smiley=beer.gif

Nice space Leo!
The canvas behind the lathe is a good way to bring the shavings to the front too! Been there done that. Otherwise it becomes the pile of dropped and forgotten stuff! Smiley
