I remember when I read David Springett's book "Woodturning Wizardry" I thought to myself:  "Someone has got waaaaaaay too much time on his hands"    This kind of thing is something I can admire but have no desire at all to try.

I've been playing with them on and off for a couple of years, but I've never completed one successfully. One of the inner spheres always breaks on me before I get to the outer sphere. I've come to the donclusion that it all depends on the type of wood used. Both Springett and Lethiecq use boxwood, and I haven't been able to find any of sufficient size.

Use caution if you give it a try, because like a lot of other turning, it's addictive!

That 'star in a sphere in a box in an egg' thing is totally crazy. It doesn't even seem possible. I mean, it's clearly possible, but no matter how I conceptualize it, it's not working in my head.

Are there any videos that show someone turning that sort of complicated hullabaloo? That just seems like witchery.
