I have been using that gentle technique for a long time since I saw this first and I've never had a chuck come loose but they are always easily removed.

He's an interesting character. I've watched several of his videos, and I always pick up a tip or two. Anybody know anything about his background?

Occasionally I have problems with chuck sticking, but suspect it is do to being aggressive when rounding and getting to size. Because I do not slam the chuck on, never have.

I just bought my 1st chuck this past spring & screwed it on & snugged it just like he does. I never thought to jam it on tight since the head stock turns into the threads when it gets turned on. I can see where he would be correct in the threads jumping. Great video & I like his sense of humor as well.  smiley=lolk.gif

The Cap'n. has some great videos on utube, good sense of humour and you gotta love his workshop, just for workin' in, no fancy stuff or too clean.  smiley=beer.gif

if the threads jump up any were you have a very big problem called WRONG SIZE THREADS the threads don't have enough play to do what he is saying .the problem is the pitch of the  threads could be a little different and sticking is from over tightening these threads. And having dirt and dust in them.I clean my chuck and spindle threads about once a week with a brass tooth brush.NO Sticking.
