Chop saw storage
Nov 22nd, 2010 at 7:08am

Just about the last item with the new shop.  Continued to struggle with the chop saw.  Tripping over it and I just don't have the space for a dedicated stand.  I seriously considered building a new base for the table saw, large enough that I could store the cop saw inside.  I finally ended up here.

I fab'ed a plywood base and hood to contain some of the sawdust and allow attachment of the vac hose.  Then I mounted a ~3x3 to the table saw and I hang the chopsaw from bicycle hooks.  The chop saw gets moved to the top of the table saw for use.  Hopefully, this is a workable solution.

Isn't it great that most of the stuff we make is for use in the shop. Grin

We woodworkers are the best example of "necessity is the mother of invention" I have ever come across.

Nice solution...

I have a similar variation on this idea. A couple of years ago, I saw this tip for a ladder based miter saw station:

Since storage at my house is super critical, (see my 'Turning al fresco' post) I just added a simple cleat to the wall to match the cleat on the miter saw base.

Hey that's my saw!!! Or it will be just like my saw tomorrow!

I work in my garage and have my band saw, table top saw and radius arm saw on casters, the chop has been taking up room I could put to a better use. Apparently one can never have too many saws, lol besides hand saws I also have a portable jig saw, 3 circular saws (two plug in, one battery) and a scroll saw plus other electrical devices that make wood become dust.
