I don't get the point of making bowl a a chuck for bowl b, etc.

It just strikes me as having a lot of stuff jammed together with the chances of it coming apart getting higher and higher.

You need to consider that the Japanese have been turning like this for centuries.

Also, these people are production turners who can knock out 40-80 bowls a day, all the same size.

Seems to work for them.

There is one more video that I've been looking for.

The Japanese style seems like a very "comfortable" style.  with their unique tool rests and cutting below center, it seems easy on the body.

He has his left arm lying on his tool rest and can "relax" through the cut.  no wonder they can turn out so many in a day...

Amazing.
