I regret to inform the turning world that Russ Fairfield passed away on January 4th. He was 75 years old and passed peacefully.

For those that knew him, he will be sorely missed.

The "formal" professor of turning will be greatly missed.  I remember him showing up at Portland in a Tux jacket and dress shirt for his demo.  He was an inspiration for many of us.  He was an artist in any sense of the word.

One of the best demo's I've ever witnessed and he never turned the lathe on.  Amazed our club at the shine he could get off plain wood, with NO finish.  I was privileged to have had several private conversations with Russ.  Always seemed more like a grand-father than a turning and finishing guru.  God's speed, Russ.  We'll miss you greatly.  Prayers for the entire family.
