Yeah but you guys have got some pretty amazing wood compared to what we can get here. Its very hard to even come by any burled woods here. I know where there are a few oak burls but I don't know who owns the land where they are.

I think everyone says the same thing about there country. I don't know what  grows there but I bet there is some great wood, Sometimes we just got to look in our own back yards. I need to find out more about what grows around here besides conifers. Where I live we have a lot of the same weather 80 inches a year is common so this summer I am going to try to get some more local wood. You can't cut a burl (or should NOT) from a living tree but some people here do it anyway. So look for dead or dying tree's, maybe you will get lucky!

I'd never cut anything from a standing tree. If it has fallen or has been removed I'd ask for a few pieces. If i was let loose with a chainsaw on those oak burls I'd be shot  smiley=lolk.gif

Keith, if I was sounding like I meant you where doing it want not. People do though and I can't believe they would do such a thing. Sorry if you got the wrong impression.

Keith,

I did a search on trees in Ireland.  Would you believe there are 2867 different varieties here?  They must all be in Phoenix Park...they're not up here.

No you didn't. Your right. I think its wrong to cut a living tree when some materials are readily available.

Cool.

I don't have much dry wood but I have willow, cottonwood, plum, Chinese elm, and some dono that is green. What should I pack up? Note that if you want a single blank the size of the inside of the box, it would have to be either cottonwood or willow.

What would people like in sizes and types?

Sorry no exotics. I use strictly wood that I've picked up from people who have cut down trees that either died, were knocked down by storms, or removed to provide space for something else.
