I see a lot of olive wood spoons/spatulas/etc. in stores now a days... pricey too.

Thanks for the tutorial, Alice!  I just followed your instructions and made my first spatula.  I'm looking forward to adapting the process to spoons, forks, and my husband's request--a pie server.

Consider yourself one of the experts now! Nice simple, clean tutorial. 

I use my homemade sanding disc like yours all the time.  I threw together a table out of scraps that'll fit in the toolrest that's a handy addition.

Also oval or triangular handles fit in the hand better than round handles. It also adds a cool factor to your ability. Not that its all that hard.

Great job Alice. I have lots and lots of small/thin pieces of various wood am always looking for way to use them up.
In addition to the woods mentioned above I believe most fruit woods will make great spatuals.
