Spatula instructions

OK, somebody asked about how I turned spatulas.  I feel a bit unqualified to explain anything on this board with so many experts, but here are pictures and I hope explainations of how I do this: (I think this will take two posts)

Great write up Alice.  I'm going to make one for my wife.  Of course I'm going to have to take credit for the idea when she asks  Roll Eyes

That looks like a very good set of instructions. I've made a couple and that is pretty much how I did mine. The only difference is I used an orbital palm sander to finish the paddle.

Very nice work!

Thanks Alice I have wondered myself although I have not tried to make any yet as I have some store bought wooden tools. Some day I might replace them with my own and have a good idea of where to start thanks to your tutorial. and pics.Pics are very helpful for people like me. I would guess spoons would be made in a similar way.

Are there any preferred woods or no no woods for this kind of project?

Watch out for the high oil woods like the Rosewoods (think Cocobolo).  Any of the plainer woods like Maple or Walnut would be good for food handling
