You'll have to grind the angle and shape you want to try, keep it cool by dipping it in water while you shape the end. Don't grind to hard or long to where the end starts to turn dark or black, you'll soften the medal and the edge want last as long. Use the short end that elbows for your cutting edge and the longer end to put in a handle of some kind. Once your happy with your shape, you'll have to sharpen it just like any other tool, maybe more often depending on how you use it.

I went and checked mine. It is actually a 1/4 allen wrench not a 5/16 like I thought. Here are a couple pictures. I used it for making quite a few ornaments and it still holds the edge. I had it unhandled, holding the wrench until I recently had a friend weld a 8" 5/16 rod to the handle end. I have a pick from above and a profile to show how I ground the top to flat.-Andy

OK so here's what I have so far.

First we refine the shape. The neck is left a bit thick to handle the stress of the hollowing.

Then bore the hole. I use my spindle gouge like a D bit. It works fine and I don't know anyone but a small child with that small of a finger.

Show your bottom so we can see how well you did at hiding the plug.

And of course, show your work.

This is some willow I had kicking around. I have one out of aspen and scrub oak in the works as well.
