Carrie, Where's your's?

Since I spent all day yesterday at a Jimmy Clewes demonstration, I didn't have a chance to post the picture until today.  I'm resizing photos now and should have them up shortly!

P.S.  I think I have a bit of a crush on Jimmy now.  What a nice guy!

Managed to salvage the piece I was working on... Not quite as rounded as I wanted but I think it's pretty good for my first natural edge bowl.

A little bit of tool marks on the inside - still learning decent control and the whirring of the wings had me a tad wary of introducing my fingers to a bowl edge.  Shocked

Isn't Jimmy a great guy.  He really has a great way of explaining everything to his students and makes you feel like you can go right home and do it yourself.  Be sure you post a pic of what you did under his instruction.  I bet it's great.

Well, I tried with 1/2 of an African Sumac log, and ended up with the piece at the bottom of the first pic missing the small chunk out of the edge.  Then I tried the other 1/2 of the AS log, and it ended up all over the shop.  Then I tried with a whole Mesquite log and it was so off balance that it didn't want stay in the chuck.  Another Mesquite log, and I got the other one in the first pic with a big chunk missing.  So I tried a 1/2 log of Sweet Acacia, and the result is in the second picture.  Five tries and zip.

Yesterday I went over to Tom Tunget's to show him how to turn pens, and then he showed me how to do a winged bowl, and I tried again today.  It isn't as thin as my other tries, but it survived!

We now have 12!

I guess my post didn't go through on Friday. Well I have a picture but I don't have a product anymore. I cancelled my entry (at least I thought I did) using this handheld. I guess I should have used my PC.

Well, I had it in my shop drying and everything was fine. Until I went in Friday morning to apply another oil coat before going to work. As soon as I opened the shop door, I heard a terrible noise. Apparently there was a bowl blank that didn't want to be there anymore and decided to roll and landed on top of my wing bowl breaking it into 3 pieces.

Well, to make a long story short, I don't have a bowl to enter and don't see myself as having time or patience to do another one anytime soon. That thing took me 3 days to get right. All my turning from now until October is dedicated for show inventory. I hope y'all understand. Believe me, I'm still upset.

Yeah, right.  We know you.  Just being lazy again.  Roll Eyes
Have fun working up that show inventory.  Hope your shows are great ones for you.  Keep us up on what's going on and how well the shows are going.

Well here it is, moday morning, so I guess all the entries are in. Thats it, 12 entries, where is everybody? Since WR just past the 3500 member mark I think we can do better than about a third of a percent.
I do want to thank those who joined in and hope whoever recieves my turning enjoys it. Also, sorry to those who had mishaps and did not get an entry in.
I am looking forward to the next C&T and hopefully more participants. Thanks Jim

OK,  We have the list of participants, and it has been run through Random.org several times to scramble it.  I will get PM's with addresses out to everyone shortly.  Each member on the list will be sending to the member listed below them.

Tom Tunget
Dirk Hoogendoorn
Robert Harper
David Hamann
Bob Hamilton
Rafael Gomez
Jim Quarles
Leo Makepeace
Edward Weber
Kathy Marshall
Doug Miller
Carrie Bradfield
Tom Tunget

Thanks for participating in this C&T.  I think this one may have been a little harder than some we have had in the past, but we had some that thought it would be too hard that tried and succeeded.

PM's sent.  Please double check against the list to make sure I sent you the correct person's address.  Remember to get your packages in the mail before the PO closes on Saturday.

For those of you who are shipping across borders, be sure to label for customs that it is a handmade gift with NO cash value.  And check with the PO if a form 2976 needs to be attached.

You mean your Post Office works Saturday? (Chuck up here just till Friday aft.)

Jim, I will be mailing mine this aft. Then my wife is taking me camping for 3 weeks, so whoever has my name they do not need to hurry since I will not be picking it up till the end of August.
Thanks for all the work. Blessing on your day,  smiley=thumbsup.gif
