I have a couple branches that are between 2 and 3" diameter.  Am I understanding correctly that I'll want to start with a piece approximately 6" long?

I forgot that I had put a dovetail in it and not a tenon...oooooopppppppppssssssss. Cry

Got one done this afternoon, not the best in the world, but got it done anyway. I will be making a few more, easier than I thought, apart from the above mistake. smiley=dankk2.gif for the idea and running the challenge and trade.

Rev, It looks like we have about 17 talking about trying this so far.  We still have almost 4 weeks left, so we may get more.

I know there are some of you out there who won't say anything until they have a successful attempt, and others who will try it quietly and not even say anything if they are successful.  That is fine.  But if you have questions, ask them even if you haven't said you are in for the trade.  The main goal of our C&T is to stretch your abilities.

Garage doors are now installed.  Only 2 months since I ordered them.  Now I have to haul everything back from the neighbors garage and get it set up again.  I think I have enough time.  I even have several Mesquite logs to work with.  YEAH!

Jim, did those garage doors have to come from China or were they English and they couldn't figure out how to get them to your place on the wrong side of the road? (apologies to all who are English) smiley=beer.gif
I,m in, this sounds like a fun challenge and I've had experience chasing stuff around the shop smiley=thumbsup.gif Embarrassed

Is this all there is to it for me besides making a hollow form, just say I'm in and that's it. Who takes care of the rest? partnering, timing, logistics and all that?

Oh forgot to ask,
Is there a minimum or maximum size?

Tom, do you need to ask Jim what size? Isn't he coming over to your place anyway to turn this since you have all his tools at your place? Wink

Trust me Dirk when I say my shop can handle anything Jim would want to turn!
Heck I'll even supply the logs!

This is fun.  Here's my first try at the shape.  It's about 1.5" wide and 4" long.  So far, my biggest lesson learned is to used as fast a speed as I can, and to take really light cuts on the hollowing so I don't chip the edge and to hopefully keep things smooth and even.  We'll see how the next one goes later!
