My back porch is my shop.

I started with the table and the lathe on it covered by a BBQ grill cover when I was done.  It worked was but was a pain because everything had to be put away at the end of each day.

Now I can just drop the top fold the front panels down and lock it up.  It takes only a few seconds to open it up and be ready to start turning.
This has been an expanding project for over a year, adding a bit at a time.  It is now finished and works great.

A case of having to make due with the space you have.

That must be nice when the weather permits.  Do you have any trouble with rust?  That was a terrible problem for me when I lived in NJ.

Very inventive.  You've got to respect someone that can make that small a space work for them.

I like it, it looks pretty cool the way you have it set up. Only problem I see is if its really hot and living where you do... I bet the humidity is a killer in the summer!

John, rust is not the problem I expected it too be.  I do have to stay ahead of it with proper maintenance but if I keep things clean and the ways waxed all seems to work.

Wizzy, your right I do not spend as much time on the back porch in Aug, Sept as the rest of the year. But his is not unique to me.  I hear the same from other members.  Of course A/C is out of the question for a back porch shop. smiley=lolk.gif

Len I got it!

Lay patio down out back, close in porch, open windows to house, heat and humidity solved.   smiley=thumbsup.gif

Either my blood has really thinned, or it's hotter than h#ll this year.  I'm finding more things to do inside the house this summer than any other summer before. I'm even considering painting the bonus room next week, which is usually a winter project for me.

No it means you have thick blood.  Thin blood is when you feel the cold worse.

Len, that is one ingenious solution! As much as I love my air-conditioning... I have to say I am jealous that you can spend so much of your shop time enjoying your wonderful climate and great outdoors.

Great idea, Len.  smiley=thumbsup.gif It could even be done on a larger scale. Sorta like the Transformers. Innocuous patio or full-blown turning shop?  Smiley
