thanks Vaughn i'll bookmark that page till i can get the dust collector.1 question do you think it would be better if I vented it outside instead of using the filter?

It's always better if you can vent outside add a 1 micron bag on it so what is vented is clean air & particles smaller then 1 micron.

Keep in mind that the only way to vent to the outside and have a filter bag is to have the whole DC outside. (Typically in a shed or under a lean-to roof.) If you want to keep the DC unit in the shop but vent it outside, then it's simply a matter of running a hose directly from the impeller (the round fan blade thing) to the outside. There's no place to put the filter in that case.
