I made mine last night. I'd been trying to push the envelope with a combination of styles but it blew up miserably. I think my problem was choice of wood and size. I was trying to combine the multiaxis turning with a goblet of rather tall proportions but since I was using cedar, the stem just wasn't strong enough to hold up to finishing the cup. I ended up with a tall NE goblet with rings. I'll keep the multiaxis idea for when I feel lucky again. I think with some changes, I can make it work.

Multi axis, 3/16" max. x 4"+ stem with a bigish bowl on the end !!!, I can see trouble ahead !! I'd love to see the results though, if you manage to do it !!

My first try burned up in the fireplace last night. Both tries ended up in multiple IFO's and that was with the lathe running as slow as possible, VERY light cuts, and a whole lot of pucker. I think next time I will try to keep the bends closer to the center line. I had the outside turn about as far away from center as I could go.

Two in the burn pile for me at this time.  No.1  was a bowl way large for the stem.  Ahh it was suppose to be a practice piece anyway.  No. 2 I hollowed through the bowl.  Sad moment  Cry.  Going back out to start again.

I'm not going to commit yet cos my shop time seems to be so sporadic these days.  I am trying to make one though.  Try #1 doesn't quite hit the requirements (stem too short and a shade too thick.)  Try #2 I was just starting to do some final shaping on the base and had a catch and snapped the stem.  Going to try to save that one with a different base, but again won't make the cut for the C&T.  Try #3 forthcoming... fun stuff! Wink

Kevin, That is why we call it a challenge.  If you at least try them, you will stretch your abilities.  And the best part is getting something from another turner for your collection.

OK, I'm in!  smiley=thumbsup.gif

Managed to spend most of the day in the shop.  Try #3 turned out to have a void smack dab in the middle of the stem  smiley=shake head.gif

Try #4 was successful!  Think I may regret having to send it away! LOL  Meh, call it motivation to do another.   Roll Eyes

I'll ship anywhere.

OK folks, there are still 5 days left to complete your piece and post it.  The gallery will open Thursday, and your picture must be posted by Sunday.  Do NOT forget to PM your mailing address to me.
