I realize we haven’t finished the Fall Goblet C&T yet, but we wanted to get this info out so you have plenty of time to get your piece mailed, whether you are participating in the goblet C&T or not.

Here is a new Challenge & Trade that should be able to be handled by almost all of our members.  Your new challenge is to turn a Christmas Ornament.  Aah, but not just any Christmas ornament.  Similar to last year’s C&T, it must be made from at least 2 different woods or other materials in any configuration. Whether laminated, segmented, mortise/tenon joint, or whatever.  And it must have some sort of hollow center. Such as, inside out or hollowed. And it must be different from the ornament you made for last year’s SS C&T.

We will open the gallery on Saturday, November 19.  Pictures must be posted by midnight EST Saturday, November 26.  Pairing assignments will be posted Sunday.  Like last year, we want everyone to get these before Christmas, all packages need to be postmarked by Saturday, December 3.

As was implied by the Subject Line, this will be a Mystery Round Robin style trade.  Everyone who participates will be assigned another member to surprise with their Ornament.  Don’t mention to whom or where you are sending it.  Everyone needs to post here when they ship, and again when they receive their ornament without mentioning who sent it to you.

Please sign up if you plan to participate, the more, the merrier.  But if your picture is not posted, and you haven't PM'ed your address to me, by the deadline, you will not be assigned a trade.  Also indicate in your PM whether you are willing to pay the additional postage to trade with our overseas members, if we have any participate.

OK!  You have 3 weeks to do this.  Let's get out there and turn some ornaments!  If you are not sure you can handle this, go out to your shop and try some different ideas.  It may surprise you how easy these are.  Look at the galleries from previous years for ideas.

"I dare you."

For those members who are new and wonder what a C&T might be, here is an explanation.

C&T stands for Challenge & Trade.  We define the parameters of a challenge for you to perform.  After completion, you post a picture in the new C&T area of the Gallery.  Participants will receive a PM with name and address of the member they are to send the completed item.  They will receive one from the same person if we are doing partners, or a different person if we do a Round Robin trade.  If we are doing partners and have an odd number complete the challenge, we end up with the 3 final members in a Round Robin.  Sometimes we do a Mystery Round Robin where nobody knows whose piece they will receive until they get it.

Jim says above "Also indicate in your PM whether you are willing to pay the additional postage to trade with our overseas members, if we have any participate."
I just looked up the "slow-boat" parcel post rate to the Cayman Islands and it $10.89 for one pound.  I think it is likely that many here would be willing to pay that.  It's ony about double a domestic package.  Took me a while to find that rate.  The most prominent one on the USPS site is $35.

Edit: I've checked all the rates for First Class Mail International Package, and for a 1-pound package the rate is around $11.  For a half-pound package it's around $8.  I'd pay that.

I am in and if I have to post overseas, I will !!!!!!!! Grin even way out to the Caymens  Cool

All of these C & Ts are fun and help with practising something new, I wish more people of all abilities would participate. I think that we could do better, with nearly 4,000 members..... it's just fun. Smiley

My opinion on this is not authoritative in any way, but I"ll share it anyway. That would be a hollow form, but the snowman must be from 2 different kinds of wood.
ps. make sure that the finish is correct. smiley=thumbsup.gif

Oh by the way, I'm in. I'll get to work on that after we visit with our granddaughters out west.

i hate to say this so soon after committing- im going to have to pull out of this c&t. i'm having  problems with the motor in my (brand new) mini lathe Cry Cry Angry and i am not sure my larger lathe would be capable of what i had planned (and could do with the wood i have on hand)- too much vibration.
sorry,
Bob
