Does anyone else hate Gorilla Glue?  It makes way more mess than it is worth.  It is difficult to contain due to its expansion and it dries a tan color.  All bad.  Mine is going to the trash.

Jenny,
I have never had good luck using CA glue with pens. The only thing I use to glue pens with is gorilla glue. Never had a problem. I wouldn't use it in flat work.

I never use anything but CA on pens except for Euro pencils.  They seem to be loose on the tube and I use Gorilla glue and then have to clean up the mess.

Gary,
I would never use it on flat work. Not enough open time but I do use it exclusively on making pens.

Gary,
Please don't take this the wrong way but maybe you should have asked here first. I have learned the hard way to much & wasted to much money. So before I try something I usually post a question it has saved me lots of money & frustration.

Gorilla does make a non expanding general puerpose wood glue.  I've used it and it works great.  Wouldn't touch that other stuff with a 10 foot pole, though.

Gorilla glue is like anything else.  You have to know how to use it.  When the instructions say a thin glue layer, thats what it means.  I've used Gorilla glue on flat work, turnings, almost everything at one time or another.  There are easier glues to use, but it isn't a bad glue, just different that the typical PVA.  I will always use it for outdoor projects or glueing dissimilar materials together.

Tip:  A sharp cabinet scraper will quickly get the "foam out" level with the join surface and then light sanding finishes the cleanup.

I tried gorilla glue on a truestone pen blank that had been wallowed out to much (my headstock came out of alignment and I didnt notice) even though I clamped the ends, it still pushed the tube out of the blank cutting into the rubber tips on my bar-clamp. ruined the blank and tube... On the other hand, I was able to use it to repair a broken foot on on a friend's antique desk. Once the glue was dry, the squeeze out was easy to chip off with a putty knife. PVA would not have worked as well in that case. Sometimes its just a matter of giving something a try, and learning what works best in what situation.
