Replacing the belt and bearings on my lathe
Dec 19th, 2011 at 9:47am

I recently did just that. My lathe is a reeves drive jet 1442 and after getting several requests I went back with camera in hand this time and did it again. Ron kindly converted my little pictorial for me and posted in the TPT area. Thanks Ron! Hope this helps someone with this daunting task that turned out to be pretty simple. And here is a link to the tutorial.Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

Good tutorial.

Whenever I have to replace a belt on a closed pulley system, I always tape a spare in there as well (out of the way).

Saves having to pull the whole thing apart.

If I read that right you install two belts on the reeves drive but only place one on the drive pulley. I never thought of that. The next change you cut off the old belt and install the spare belt without disassembling the reeves drives Smiley. Thanks for that tip!

Nice tutorial Bill you did good, what you showed should work on the 1642 as well, or at least I think it would.

Mike, the 1642 doesn't have Reeves drives.

Just goes to show where my head is these days, it sure isn't thinking on all cylinders is it sense I do know the difference between the 1642 and the 1442. Cry

Don't even have to do that. Lift the lid, slacken motor fully, slip belt sideways between cover and lathe pulley and take out.

Reverse to fit.
