My take was that the judges saw the winner as someone who would continue to produce pieces that were carved on, decorated, etc. thus increasing their value. If I understood correctly, the winner received space in the mentioned gallery, so a winner whos pieces were more expensive would be most desirable one to have on board. I really didn't care for his piece, I liked the burl bowl by the lady woodturner the most.

Here, we are turners and see different things than non-turners. My personal preference was the platter, but the carved piece better met the terms of what they were looking for. I did not like the burl piece at all.
