I always use the skew after I get the general shape roughed in with a gouge.  I thought that was the normal way.  How do you do a spindle with just a gouge???  Sounds like it would be a LOT more sanding than I usually do.

Hmmm, well, not a skew master by any means, but probably better than I am. It works, but I think other tools would make the job faster and easier. Didn't care much for the music, I am more into R and B, and classic Rock....
