If you look through the pics ( I think it is pic #2 you will see that I have a 1500w portable oil filled convection heater 110v that I use to heat the shop. When I built the shop I paid attention to making sure that it was well insulated and all potential air gaps were weather sealed, this is why I have the double swing out doors rather than the standard roll-up. Even when the temp drops to the occassional -14c I'm able to keep the shop at a comfortable 65 f.
I generally plug in the heater starting sometime in October and just leave it on till the weather warms up again in the spring. I estimate that it may cost about an extra $50 per month to keep the shop heated all winter but it's well worth it to me.

P.S as to the concerns of inadequate electrical capacity, 60amps is more than enough for a one man shop.
I've never had an issue and I have a 4.5hp bandsaw, 3hp planer, 3hp jointer, 3hp D.C. 2hp lathe a 110v heater. so the most tools and the heaviest loads at any time may be the D.C., lights, Bandsaw, and heater.
AND if I was to overload the system the worst that could happen is that I would trip the 60amp. main in the shop before it would or should trip the 60amp. breaker in the house panel that feeds the shop.

Lots of nice equipment, and the walls! oh, to have that look, and be able to hang anything anywhere.... Did you make all the cabinets too? That's a lot of raised panels. You must be very well insulated to get by on just 1500 watts of heat. Good job.

Yes I made all of the raised panels, rails and styles are of Alder and the panels within are of spalted birch which we milled ourselves. A few years back we were lucky (myself and a few woodworking friends) in that we came across a large pile of Maple, Birch and Cherry logs that had been cut and stacked then left like that in the bush for several years. Of course decay had set in, some of the logs were no longer good but the bulk of the pile had some beautiful spalting, so we had this shipped to a bandmill, milled and kiln dried for our use, I thought that this would be a nice choice for my shop cabinets.
In all there are ( so far) 22 door panels that I have made and I have yet to build a few more cabinets, especially something for my plane collection.

As you all said It's nice! ... nice enough to only have to make one trip there and back in a day.
Yes I've been known to spend "all day" in the shop.
Besides we seldon get weather that cold here, but it can happen once or twice each winter but when it does it generally lasts only for a few days, then it's back to mild winter weather with lots of rain.

If your looking to find it rest assured that it is well secured, alarmed and all. Plus it's all of 15' from my bedroom window

Actually that is probably one of my biggest concerns with the shop. All those drawers and shelves behind the doors are stock full of tools, but at least with the proper cabinets most all of it appears to be out of site and away from theaving eyes.
