Gloves

I did a quick search, and think maybe this came up once before, but I didn't see much in the way of responses. I know standard wisdom is not to use gloves around any kind of power equipment.
I want to try it anyway, preferably fingerless gloves to reduce the chance of them getting caught. Would want them very tight for the same reason, but with some padding.
I have severe inflammatory (psoriatic) arthritis. Was diagnosed with it about 25 years ago. Because of the disease and the meds I take for it,  I have very thin, nearly non-existant nails, very thin skin that tears easily, a lot of tendon pain, and when I do get cut, I bleed pretty well. Oh, and my wrists grind with just about every movement. So any coverage and support I can get will help a lot.
Do any of you use gloves? Any suggestions welcome.

I use the anti-vibration fingerless gloves.  I've had the "no gloves" beat into me for 38 years in machine shop.  A little common sense and I don't have a problem using them.

As long as their good and snug and nothing loose or hanging you should be ok, like Jeff said... little common sense goes a long way.

I have arthritis too but probably not as bad as yours. My way around it is when I make tool handles, they are much larger in diameter than most. I find it more comfortable and easier to hold onto. You could also look into wrapping the tool handles with craft foam or bicycle grip tape to absorb the vibration. Heavier handles also cut down on the vibration.

same way i think- i use tight gloves, fingerless from the first knuckle, with some common sense and im fine. it really does help, especially when a sharp chip comes flying down the flute of the gouge.

I use fingerless padded gloves sometimes. Really helps with the heat of hot dry wood like Mesquite burning the side of my hand. Ellsworth wears one and it's not even real tight. Just keep it behind the tool rest so it can't get close to the spinning wood.

Go to a auto parts store and look at mechanics gloves. they are padded and if they aren't fingerless cut them off where you want them. they fit really good most of the time. There are a lot of makers of them so look around.

Went to Wally world and got some fingerless weight lifters gloves. They are tight fitting, padded and also protect the hand from hot chips. Just be aware of your surroundings when wearing them.

I stay away from gloves unless there are hot chips coming off the cut.  Just snug-fitting padded gloves are safe enough.  The only exception is when I'm turning natural edge bowls with lots of potential 'snags'.  I'd rather bleed all over the place than have a glove caught and taking me for a spin until something is broken.

The key is vigilant caution - with or without gloves.

I use cycling gloves, they are handy and fingerless with padding in the palm, and fit like a second skin.

I have about 9 pair spread through out my environment.

Thank you for all the replies. Nice to know I'm not crazy for considering it. I had considered bicycling gloves, used to have some, but they are no where to be found. Weight lifting gloves sound like a good idea. I'd like some of the vibration or impact reduction gloves, but can't seem to find any around. I want to try anything on before I buy and make sure I get as tight a fit as possible that I can still work in. Trying to decide if I want cloth for breathability, or leather for durability and less chance of shavings and stuff getting stuck in the gloves. Will probably end up with whatever fits best and see how they work out from there.
Thanks again.

I also use fingerless gloves I got from Home Depot. Not sure what type they are. I know they are for construction.

Late in replying to this but I use Wide Receivers gloves.  Amazing tight fitting gloves that help me to hang onto tools and do seem to absorb much of the vibration.  Can be found in most sporting goods stores.  I tried the vibration reducing gloves but most of the vibration seems to be in the fingers.  I also have arthritis.  These gloves keep me turning.
