Greetings from Rhode Island
03/03/12 at 13:28:23

For some time I have been turning Custom Striped Bass lures and occasionaly craft items such as candle sticks and Christmas ornaments. I have also turned some small goblets, with about a 10% success rate.
I grew up fishing Narragansette Bay with my Dad and his group of friends back in the 60's Rod and reel commercial.
I have come full circle to ardent conservationist from the moment we almost lost this majestic fish in the late 80's
I practice what is known as Skishing, a small community of extreme fisherman that don a wetsuit for floatation, a pair of dive fins, and swim off shore with a surf casting rod to catch Stripers, sometimes as far as 3 miles off shore in the dead of night. I also build custom rods with over 30 years experiance, commercial and personal use.
I enjoy wood carving, focusing more on waterfowl, apprentising under a known carver for several years when I was a Special Ops Marine Sniper in Camp Lejeaune N.C.
I look forward to learning new skills and will hopefully be able to contribute items from time to time to help others as well.
Now, how many here are fisherman that build there own lures?
This photo was taken 1 1/2 miles off Brentons Reef Newport Rhode Island in 60 feet of water. Small Striper, one of many that night, that fel for 1 of my custom Needle fish lures, the rod is one of my customs as well.

Ed,
I've also done a bit of fishing from the Mount Hope bridge. & down in gansett. Also from some party boats in Galilee. I answered your PM  gave you my phone numbers.  I'm off work next Sat so if you got time & want to get together just let me know. Either you can come down here or I can come up to Woonsockett.
